Anatomic Pathology LIS Tour with Allison Still: A Webinar Recap

Allison Still is an experienced Laboratory Information System (LIS) Product Specialist who has real-world experience as a former operations analyst and LIS software consultant at an independent pathology group. That deep industry knowledge was on display recently during a LigoLab anatomic pathology software tour.

What follows is a recap of her excellent tour, plus a recording of the pathology software webinar. A Guided Tour of LigoLab’s Anatomic Pathology LIS 

Despite the fact that advanced laboratory information system software is readily available, legacy LIS systems supported by legacy LIS software vendors continue to frustrate pathology groups because these systems typically come with reliability and performance issues, limited functionality, inefficient workflows, and time-consuming manual processes. 

The main goal of this LigoLab webinar was to show pathologists, lab managers, and those residing in laboratory C-suites that they no longer need to deal with their LIS system limitations. Instead of dealing with the pain and being restricted by artificial barriers to growth, attendees were able to see firsthand how an advanced LIS solution like LigoLab Informatics Platform can modernize a laboratory and deliver the flexibility and functionality it needs to overcome the pain points and scale efficiently.

The anatomic pathology software tour began with a quick welcome to all those attending. From there Still opened her 30-minute presentation by sharing her training environment of the LIS software, enabling attendees to see what she was seeing. 

The following topics were covered by Still as she expertly navigated through LigoLab’s AP module.

• Grossing Touchscreen: A straightforward and intuitive user interface for grossing technologists to record critical information about the specimens they are processing. The application is best used with a stylus and it’s designed to work seamlessly with barcode scanners and label printers, enhancing efficiency and reducing the chance for errors.

• Histology Work Log: A detailed audit of specific histology actions that were performed during processing (from grossing, to blocks, to slides).

• Error Tracking: How the use of “workflow actions” can be applied to any entity (a specimen, a lab order, and a lab report are the most common) to identify issues that need to be addressed as the specimen is processed.

• Case Assignment/Distribution: The automated distribution of pathologist cases in a fair, balanced, and efficient manner based on factors like licensure, specialization, customer preferences, case weight, and caseload. 

• QA & Statistical Reporting: How users can run stat reports based on specific entities and then access and distribute them. Also, how filters can be configured and saved as search templates.

Questions Related to the LIS System and the Pathology Lab Software Tour

An interactive Q&A session followed the tour with Still fielding some excellent questions from a very interested group that included current LigoLab users, plus other potential customers who were getting a first look at LigoLab’s laboratory information system solution. 

Here is a sample of some of the questions directed toward Still: :

• Does your LIS system utilize CAP (College of American Pathologists) templates for its anatomic pathology software reports? Yes, LigoLab has an integration with the CAP templates. 

• Regarding the case assignment and distribution feature, when can this assignment take place? The LIS system is extremely flexible, so case assignments can happen at any time during the laboratory workflow. For larger labs, a devoted queue is the best option. 

• How does the LigoLab platform work with voice recognition? Is 3M Fluency Direct compatible with LigoLab? Yes, the LIS software is very compatible with voice recognition software. Most of our current customers use Fusion Narrate and Dragon Dictation Software. 

• Which EHRs (Electronic Health Records) can LigoLab integrate with for bidirectional order and result exchange? The LigoLab platform can integrate with any and all EHR systems. We've never encountered a laboratory software system that we couldn't integrate with.
