Laboratory Software Systems: What You Need to Know to Make an Informed Decision

Laboratory software terminology can be confusing as definitions change over time and meanings in some cases become interchangeable. To help clear up the confusion, we've put together a comprehensive list that highlights the types of laboratory software systems currently available, and the common processes managed by these systems.

What's the difference between LIS and LIMS systems? What role does Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) play within these systems, and what's the future outlook for laboratory software?  We explore all of this and more in this month's featured blog post.

Case Study: The Northwest Laboratory and Washington State Department of Corrections Organizational Testing Partnership

For just over a year, Jeremy Turner, a Correctional Program Manager, has played a lead role for the Washington State Department of Corrections. Since June of 2020, he's been assisting department headquarters with COVID-19 management and testing for all 24 facilities that make up the system.

Before COVID-19, Turner, a 22-year department veteran, was charged with maintaining safety and security while overseeing his staff and the daily activities of 2,500 incarcerated individuals housed at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center. Now, he manages staff serial testing for the entire department and large-scale testing for the incarcerated, and the testing program includes more than 18,000 patient accounts.

To learn more about the on-the-job challenges Turner and his colleagues have faced over the last year, we invite you to read this TestDirectly Case Study that focuses on the Washington State Department of Corrections COVID-19 testing program and its organizational testing partnership with Northwest Laboratory.
