While there, he played a leading role in helping that lab become the largest privately held testing organization in California. He accomplished this by managing the implementation of cutting-edge technologies that enabled the laboratory to scale up its testing volume by 20 times in just seven years.
Avunjian expertly leads LigoLab by applying his experience and operational excellence to drive strategy and innovation, and he possesses a keen sense for knowing when to take advantage of an opportunity to advance the company and enhance the platform for all of its laboratory partners.
An example of Avunjian’s innovative approach is the launch of TestDirectly in March 2020. This direct-to-consumer lab testing portal simplified sample collection and processing at a time when clinical laboratories were overwhelmed by the challenges of COVID-19 testing. By removing collection and reporting bottlenecks, TestDirectly made testing more accessible for patients while enabling labs to expand capacity and accelerate turnaround times.
With deep expertise in the laboratory industry and a clear vision for its future, Avunjian is a respected voice in the field. He is frequently featured in leading publications (such as CAP Today, Clinical Lab Products Magazine, Today’s Clinical Lab, Dark Daily, MedicalLab Management Magazine, and Medical Laboratory Observer).
Earlier in his career, Avunjian helped build multiple start-ups and advised established organizations, overseeing the development and successful exits of several B2B software platforms. His entrepreneurial path eventually led him to serve as CTO of Healthline Clinical Laboratories, which was later acquired by LabCorp in 2006. Following that acquisition, Avunjian and his partners launched LigoLab, setting the foundation for the company’s continued growth and industry impact.
